FAQ
- 1. Which cameras are supported?
- Two kinds, detected automatically. Cameras from 2020 on (a6700, a7 IV, a7R V, a7C II, ZV-E10 II, a1, FX30…) send full RAW, JPEG, HEIF and video; tested with the Sony a6700, more models during the beta. Cameras before 2020 (a6000–a6600, a7 II/III, a7R III/IV, RX100 III–VII, ZV-1…) send JPEG and video — they cannot send RAW over Wi-Fi; on the camera use Send to Smartphone → Select on Smartphone.
- 2. How do I prepare the camera?
- Cameras from 2020 on: open MENU → Network → Cnct./PC Remote → PC Remote Function and set PC Remote to On. Then open Wi-Fi Direct Info and press Connect with QR Code at the bottom (the trash button) — a QR code appears on the camera screen. Scan it in CamDrop. The same screen also shows the network name and password, if you prefer to type them. Don't use Smartphone Connection: on these cameras its QR code installs Sony's app, it is not a Wi-Fi network. Cameras before 2020: press Playback, then MENU → Send to Smartphone → Select on Smartphone.
- 3. The app says "The camera is not in transfer mode".
- The camera has left the transfer screen. Open the Wi-Fi screen on the camera again (Wi-Fi Direct Info with PC Remote on; on cameras before 2020, Send to Smartphone) and try once more.
- 4. The iPhone doesn't join the camera's Wi-Fi.
- Make sure you allow the "join network" prompt from iOS. If it still fails: forget the camera network in iOS Settings → Wi-Fi, then scan the QR code again. Restarting the camera's Wi-Fi (turn PC Remote off and on; on cameras before 2020, leave and reopen Send to Smartphone) also helps.
- 5. The app can't find the camera — "Local Network" permission.
- CamDrop needs the Local Network permission to reach the camera. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → CamDrop and turn it on.
- 6. Where are my RAW files?
- In Photos, a RAW+JPEG pair is saved as one photo: the JPEG is what you see, and the RAW (ARW) is attached to it — editors like Lightroom will pick it up automatically. Every transferred file is also available in the Files app under On My iPhone (On My iPad) → CamDrop.
- 7. How do I restore my purchase?
- Open Settings in CamDrop → Restore Purchases. Family Sharing is supported.
- 8. How do I send a connection log?
- If something doesn't work, a log helps a lot. In CamDrop: Settings → Support → Write to the developer — the log is attached to the email. Or Export connection log and send it to wertyal094@gmail.com. The log contains only the camera model and file names — no photos, no passwords.
- 9. A camera saved on my iPhone doesn't show up on my iPad.
- Saved cameras sync through iCloud Keychain. Check that both devices use the same Apple ID and that Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Passwords and Keychain is on, then open CamDrop on the iPad again. Syncing can take a minute.
